Clinton

Clinton is a quiet little town at the base of the scenic Limestone Marble Range that is nestled amongst rolling pastures and surrounded by foothills of green pine trees. This bustling Village offers visitors much in way of recreational activities all year long. There are many lakes close by which can support a variety of summer and winter sports. The surrounding areas abound in wildlife, wildflowers and many other scenic opportunities.

Remnants of the historical past of this once booming town are easy to find in modern-day Clinton. During the Cariboo Gold Rush, Clinton was a busy junction of the wagon road leading to the gold fields of the north. The location of the settlement made it an ideal resting place for travelers and miners en route. Originally known as 47 Mile House, proprietors boasted of a well-stocked saloon, great food, friendly hosts and seven rooms – today the proprietors in this town can add to the list of accommodations, but everything else remains the same.

Clinton has 2 schools, 1 elementary and 1 high school. The main street of town boasts many unique local artisans, showing their wares, antique stores, curio shops and the like. The major focal point hotel, a beautiful building constructed of hand peeled log, The Cariboo Lodge, offers a full restaurant, pub and rooms. In addition, there are many comfortable motels as well. Clinton has one financial institution, accounting services, spectacular museum, R.V. parks, local detachement of the R.C.M.P., hardware store and the Village Office.

Surrounded by rolling hills and beautiful ranch land, Clinton is the gateway to the Cariboo. There are many, many beautiful lakes close by, which are famous for their great fishing and natural beauty.
